KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 474 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the state’s tally thus far to 26,032.
Bintulu district accounted for 103 of the cases, Sibu (84); Miri (46); Kuching and Song with 35 cases each; Kapit (34); Mukah (27); Serian (24); Saratok (13); 11 cases each in Pakan and Tanjung Manis; Kanowit (10); Sarikei (eight); Selangau (six); Bukit Mabong (four); three cases each in Sebauh, Betong, Beluru and Samarahan; Bau and Kabong had two each while Meradong, Dalat, Julau, Marudi, Limbang, Asajaya and Lundu each recorded one new case.
“Of the 474 new cases reported, 69 had showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening,” Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement.
The new patients comprised 396 persons who had been given quarantine orders. The others were detected through screenings at health facilities, and those linked to existing active clusters.
Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded one new death related to Covid-19 infection today, increasing the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 146.
This 146th death was Case 19,684; a local man, aged 80 years who received treatment at Kapit Hospital as he experienced shortness of breath. His reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab test was positive on Apr 10.
The person was referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.
SDMC said his health condition deteriorated and he passed away on Apr 21.
“He had comorbidities of high blood pressure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,” SDMC said.
The committee also reported 556 recoveries and discharge today comprising 116 from Bintulu Hospital and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), Sibu Hospital and PKRC (104), Sarawak General Hospital (97), Miri Hospital (74), Mukah PKRC (64), Sarikei Hospital (62), Kapit Hospital and PKRC (18), Serian PKRC (nine), Betong PKRC (eight), and Sri Aman Hospital (four).
“This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 20,197 or 77.59 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” it said.
A total of 5,623 active cases are still being isolated and treated at hospital wards and PKRCs in the state.
There were also 481 new persons-under-investigation (PUIs) reported with seven awaiting test results.
