KUCHING: Retirement did not stop Abang Mohamad Sapien Abang Daud from dedicating his life to helping the needy.
The retired headmaster said the main factor that motivated him was seeing how many people were in need of assistance.
The 59-year-old said he felt satisfied and happy whenever he was able to help someone.
“Everyone has their own interest and I thank Allah for choosing me to have interest in welfare. At least I can spend the remainder of my life helping people.
“I enjoy seeing others happy, it is a form of satisfaction for me. In fact, it makes me grateful that Allah has given me more compared to others even though I’m not rich or in a high position.”
The former SK Pulau Seduku headmaster also said he had been involved in charitable activities even before his retirement.
Mohamad Sapien said that Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Amal Jariah Komuniti Kuching (AMAL Kuching) was established in February earlier this year.
He added that the association was registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to ensure it would carry on with help from the public to benefit those in need.
“Among the activities that AMAL Kuching has done so far are providing free funeral van and management, lending patient beds to patients regardless of race and religion, rich and poor.”
Mohamad Sapien said the association had been collecting donations from the public to purchase supplies for Tabung Makanan Amal, which will help the needy and poor.
He said the money also helped to lessen the burden of fire victims such as in Kampung Supa, Spaoh and Kampung Sungai Midin, Semariang.
“Our hope is that we want to make AMAL Kuching as a model for charitable acts.”
Public members who wish to contribute can make donations through AMAL Kuching’s bank account (1101662633, Bank: BANK RAKYAT, Remark: AMAL) and transaction record must be sent to +60198557806 via WhatsApp.
