MUKAH: A fisherman reported missing at Batang Paloh here since Tuesday was found stranded at a nearby beach by members of the public this morning.

Acting on a report received on Tuesday evening, State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was conducted today at around 7am in search of the missing man.

“While the SAR team was conducting a search heading to the Batang Paloh estuary, the team received information from the public saying the victim had been found safe,” the department said in a statement today.

It said the boat and its engine belonging to the 69-year-old survivor were in working condition.

However, the boat was stuck on the sandbar when found.

“During bad weather, the man decided to find shelter at a nearby beach. His mobile phone was soaked and the boat was short on fuel to return home,” it explained.
