KUCHING: The military is opening a field hospital in Kapit.

Sarawak Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing said preparations for it are scheduled to be completed within a week.

“If everything goes as planned, the hospital should be completed in a week,” he said today.

He went on to explain that the hospital is aimed at easing congestion at Kapit Hospital.

“This field hospital is for non-Covid-19 patients so that Kapit Hospital has enough beds to treat Covid-19 patients,” he said.

He was responding to reports that the Ministry of Health (MOH) was in talks with the Ministry of Defence to establish field hospitals in Sarawak and Kelantan where Covid-19 cases have increased.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said such a field hospital similar to the one built in Tawau at the start of the third wave of Covid-19 is very much needed.
