KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang urged people to cooperate and comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to control the soaring cases of Covid-19 in Sarawak.
“A lot of people have been vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine, but and then again we should not take things for granted,” said the Batu Kitang assemblyman when attending the Malaysia Armed Forces Indian Veteran Association (PERIM) Sarawak blood donation campaign at the Dewan Persatuan India Kuching (IAK), today.
“We still need to wear face masks, practise social distancing, avoid being in huge crowds and comply with the SOPs,” he added.
On Friday, Sarawak recorded 750 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths. Miri recorded the highest with 124 new positive cases, while Kuching only recorded 22 new positive cases.
Commenting on this, Lo explained that the state government and the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) are doing their best to control the pandemic situation.
“In my own constituency, there are a lot of quarantine cases, meaning that people have made a lot of contacts with Covid-19 patients,” he added.
He mentioned that it is important for the public to maintain and follow the SOPs and guidelines to control and slow down the infection.
“I think, at the moment, we are doing well in the sense that we understand the virus but we still have to follow the SOPs for public safety, especially wearing the face masks in public areas. That is the best way to keep Covid-19 at bay,” he concluded.
