KUCHING: Sarawakian-born ACP Awang Din Awang Gani officially stepped down as Kuching police chief on Monday (May 10).
Deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa will be the acting police chief.
Awang Din will be transferred to the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters as the deputy chief of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (Strategic Planning).
The handover ceremony for the acting Kuching police chief position was witnessed by Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Fisol Salleh at the Kuching police headquarters (IPD).
In his speech, Awang Din said he was lucky and grateful to have the opportunity to serve in his home state after serving in Peninsula Malaysia for so long.
“Despite my short tenure here, it was a great honour for me to lead Kuching IPD. I am happy to have received the support and cooperation from all department chiefs, all police station chiefs, senior and rank and file officers as well as general officers of Kuching IPD.
“I believe my successor, ACP Ahsmon Bajah, will be able to pave the way towards excellent service and achieve the vision and mission of Sarawak IPK and the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) in general,” he said.
He asked all personnel at the police headquarters to extend the same support to the new Kuching police chief.
Awang Din served as the 30th Kuching police chief for two years, one month and two days. He took over on Apr 8, 2019.
