SIBU: The state government has allocated RM500,000 to five secondary schools — SMK Tiong Hin, SMK Tung Hua, SMK Chung Cheng, SMK Chung Hua and SMK Kwong Hua.

Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew, when contacted on Saturday (May 15), said that each school received RM100,000.

He said it showed the state government’s concern in helping to develop schools in the state, despite the fact that matters pertaining to education are under the purview of the Education Ministry (MOE).

“The grants are for the schools to improve and upgrade their facilities,” said the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chairman.

Also present at the check handover ceremony was SUPP deputy president II Datuk Chieng Buong Toon, who is also Sibu Urban Renewal Committee chairman.

Lau represented the state government in handing over the cheques to representatives of the schools.
