NGO lightens burden of frontliners with donations

KUCHING: Frontline personnel based in Kampung Bako Hilir today received food donations and supplies from a local non-government organisation (NGO).

The contributions from Hope Place Kuching comprised drinking water, biscuits, instant cup noodles, instant coffee and other drinks, face masks as well as hand sanitisers.

Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kuching Chapter sponsored 12 bottles of the one-litre hand sanitisers given specifically to help those in need during the pandemic. 

Frontline personnel from the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Civil Defence Force (APM), Social Welfare Department (JKM), PDRM and staff from the Ministry of Health (MoH) have been based at the village from 11 May until 24 May as the village is under lockdown order.

The local NGO, led by its founder Kelvin Wan, for the first time, sent the donations by boat across the Bako River to reach the village jetty, and was help by APM personnel and volunteers to unload the donations.

Receiving the contributions during the handover event was Kampung Bako Hilir village chief Sadilo Talib and witnessed by a representative from APM Thong Wai Hong.
