663 positive cases recorded in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 663 Covid-19 positive cases yesterday (May 23), bringing the state’s tally to 42,283.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 320 cases or 48.27 percent of the new cases were detected in Sibu, Kuching and Miri districts.

Sibu district accounted for 112 new cases; Kuching 105; Miri 103; Belaga 43; Bintulu 37; Serian 29; Betong 29; Selangau 26; Pakan 23; Samarahan 22; Mukah 16; Kapit and Tanjung Manis 15 each; Sarikei 14; Subis 11; Sri Aman 10; Lawas nine; Bau eight; Kanowit seven; Song six; Pusa four; Meradong, Julau and Beluru three each; Tatau, Tebedu and Asajaya two each; Marudi, Bukit Mabong, Dalat and Simunjan one each.

“Of the total, 452 cases were individuals screened after having contacts with Covid-19 cases and 82 cases were individuals screened in active clusters.

“73 cases were symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities while 53 cases were from other screenings at health facilities,” SDMC said.

The committee said 332 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide.

Of these, 138 cases were from Miri Hospital and the low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) under it, Bintulu Hospital and the PKRC under it (58), Sibu Hospital and the PKRC under it (54), Sarawak General Hospital and the PKRC under it (41), PKRC Betong (13), Kapit Hospital and the PKRC under it (nine), Sarikei Hospital and the PKRC under it (eight), Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman (four), PKRC Serian (four) and PKRC Mukah (three).

“This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 35,123 or 83.07 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak.

“6,814 individuals are still undergoing treatment at PKRCs and hospital isolation wards in the state,” SDMC said.

The committee added that a total of 663 new persons under investigation (PUIs) had been reported.
