MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo hoped that a new bridge to replace the existing old wooden bridge crossing Sungai Tellian at Kampung Tellian Daya (Tellian Ulu) here would be constructed from concrete.
However, he, at the same time, was very aware of the close proximity of some houses nearby the bridge, which, according to him, might make it difficult to do piling work.
“Currently, the proposed replacement bridge project is waiting for the specifications to complete,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.
The former Balingian assemblyman was asked whether the new bridge would be constructed from wood (belian), semi-concrete or others, and if it is passable by car.
According to him, it would be up to the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s (DID) Technical Section to decide on what material to use for the bridge project.
Yussibnosh revealed that initial proposal was to allow only one car to cross the bridge at any one time.
He recently said that the project would be financed by this year Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund.
He added DID Mukah would implement the project, which is valued at RM250,000.
The existing bridge was built over 40 years ago before it was improved about 20 years later.
It is six feet wide, over 100 feet long and 12 feet above water level (low tide).
