MIRI: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni today (June 8) urged the state government to set up mobile vaccination units in the rural areas of Sarawak to speed up the immunisation process.
Lukanisman also hoped that bus companies in the state would help in the immunisation process by converting their buses into mobile vaccination sites to bring the vaccines to the rural folk.
Earlier on, the MP applauded Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s announcement to make Covid-19 vaccines available to those in the rural areas without appointments.
“This approach will help to expedite the vaccination process, especially in the rural areas as they (rural folk) can just show up to get their jabs,” he said today.
In view of the current pandemic and movement control order (MCO) situation, Lukanisman pointed out that it was inappropriate to use public buses or vans to transport people from the rural areas to the vaccination centres (PPVs).
“It is more appropriate to set up mobile vaccination units as we can bring the vaccines to the people,” he said.
Lukanisman also urged the government to set up more vaccination centres (PPVs) in Sibuti, especially within the Subis district, to speed up the vaccination process.
He recommended that the health clinic in Bekenu be used as a vaccination centre.
Currently, only the Bekenu community hall is being used as a vaccination centre.
The MP also proposed that residents in Ulu Sibuti will be allowed to receive their vaccines at the nearby vaccination centre in Beluru to help reduce the movements of residents.
