KUCHING: The Chief Minister wants the public to be more responsible on social media, and not post false information that may cause confusion and unease.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said posting something on social media platforms must be supported by facts.

“Please do not post arbitrarily because when people read (the posting), they will think it is true.

“So, when people start to believe it, confusion may arise and you don’t know what is right or wrong,” he said during a press conference after launching the Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid (BKSS) 6.0 food aid at Darul Ehsan Mosque, Kampung Haji Baki here today (Tuesday).

Abang Johari was asked to comment on a video that went viral concerning an individual who was worried about the extension of the enhanced movement control order at Sungai Plan.

“The issues concerning residents in Sungai Plan have been solved by the Bintulu Divisional Disaster Management Committee.

“What is happening on social media is that there’s a lot of cerita pelik (unverified or fake) news. Then people think it is true. This is what happened.”

He urged social media users to be very careful about what they saw or read on social media platforms.
