KUCHING: The Sessions Court here yesterday fined six Vietnamese fishermen who pleaded guilty to illegally entering and fishing in Malaysian waters.

Judge Maris Agan fined boat skipper Tran Ngaon, RM10,000 in default three months in prison while the five crews were each fined RM7,000 in default three months in jail.

All six foreigners were also instructed to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing their sentences.

The foreign fishermen were caught on May 25 this year at approximately 100.2 nautical miles from Tanjung Po.

They were charged under Section 16(3) of the Fisheries Act 1985, punishable under Section 25(a) of the same act.
