KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out three crucial factors in the fight against Covid-19 and for a good economy.
He did this during an audience with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah via video conferencing from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) here on Monday (June 14).
Among the points Abang Johari presented during the session was the need for the vaccination programme to be accelerated and completed by August in order to achieve herd immunity.
The chief minister also stressed the importance of having a strong and stable government to ensure that the Covid-19 programme and economy were well-grounded as well as the implementation of a Post Covid-19 Economic Exit Plan.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing were among those present during the audience with the Agong.
“We, as the presidents of PRS, SUPP and PDP, fully agree with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, chairman of GPS on the three crucial factors in the fight against Covid-19 and the conduct of the economy,” the three presidents of the GPS component parties said in a joint statement on Monday.
Meanwhile, based on a short clip showing Abang Johari speaking with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong which was shared by the CMO, the chief minister revealed that a Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 would be launched soon.
The CMO, in a statement on June 9, said the office had been informed by Istana Negara that His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong would be granting an audience to the presidents of GPS component parties on June 14.
This was after an online news portal, Malay Mail, citing a source, reported that the Agong would hold a meeting with top political party leaders to get their views on the Covid-19 situation in the country.
