BINTANGOR: Search and rescue operations for 50-year-old Ijah Lasa who was reported missing while looking for forest produce in Nanga Lijan on June 1, entered Day Seven today (June 16).

A spokesman from the State Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said the search yesterday (June 15) was focused at three areas — Jalan Denai to a rubber plantation in Sungai Urik and Sungai Semayong, and the foot of Bukit Tugong.

The search involved 28 rescuers, consisting of the police, personnel from the General Operations Force and Civil Defence Force, as well as villagers.

As of 4pm, there was no sign of the victim and the operation has been postponed.

On June 1, the victim was reported to have gone to the forest with two of her friends to look for forest produce.

After their activities, Ijah had returned home earlier than her friends.

However, upon her friends’ arrival at the longhouse, she was nowhere to be found.

Concerned for Ijah’s safety, her friends informed other residents of the longhouse about her disappearance. They started their own search party to look for her before contacting the authorities.
