KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 569 new positive cases today (June 19), taking the state’s case tally to 59,139.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 361 of the cases or 63.44 percent were detected in Sibu, Sarikei, Kuching, Bintulu and Kapit.
Sibu District registered 131 cases, Sarikei (83), Kuching (74), Bintulu (47), Kapit (26), Simunjan (23), Meradong (22), Miri (22), Kanowit (18), Serian (16), Mukah (16), Samarahan (14), Subis (11), Selangau (11), Sri Aman (8), Lundu (8), Bau (7), Telang Usan (7), Tatau (6), Pakan (4), Marudi (4), Tebedu (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Pusa (1), Asajaya (1), Lawas (1), Dalat (1) and Song (1).
“Of the new cases, 38 exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection,” they said, adding that 482 cases were individuals who had been ordered to be quarantined.
Of the 569 new cases, 358 were those who had contact with positive Covid-19 cases, 124 were linked to existing active clusters, 52 were from other screenings, and 35 cases were symptomatic individual screened at health facilities.
“Today (Saturday), 550 new cases have recovered and discharged,” said the committee.
Of these, 145 cases were discharged from Bintulu Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under Bintulu Hospital, 94 cases at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC, 87 cases at Miri Hospital and its PKRC, 78 cases at Sibu Hospital and its PKRC, 72 cases at Kapit Hospital and its PKRC, 21 cases at Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC, 21 cases at Mukah PKRC, 14 cases at Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC, 11 cases at Serian PKRC and seven cases at Betong PKRC.
“These take the number of recovered and discharged cases so far to 48,682 or 82.32 percent of the total number in Sarawak,” said SDMC.
They said there were still 9,951 active cases being isolated and treated at hospital wards and PKRCs throughout the state.
“A total of 569 new persons-under-investigation (PUIs) have been reported while no PUIs are awaiting laboratory test results,” they said.
