SRI AMAN: The Education Team emerged as the champions in the men’s doubles category in conjunction with the Sri Aman Closed Petanque MAKSAK 2018 Championship which held at the Petanque Arena court here.

The Education team defeated Medical team in the final of the event organised by the Sarawak branch Medical Club, here, recently. Meanwhile, the Prison team finished third with another Education team in fourth place.

In the women’s doubles event, Medical and Welfare teams emerged as the joint champions while the Medical team also won the runnersup spot in the category. Education team were also third, followed by Prison and Medical teams sharing the fourth place.

The organising spokesperson, Tan Khok Chin said a total of 15 teams took part in the men’s doubles category and seven teams in the women’s doubles category in the two-day tournament. The event aimed at enhancing the interest of government staff in Sri Aman in petanque when staff from the Department of Medicine and Health, Sri Aman Prison Centre, Education Department and District Offices, here, took part.

“We hope that this tournament will be able to unleash petanque talents among government employees in Sri Aman who can compete at higher levels in future,” he said. The closing and prize presentation ceremony was officiated by Sri Aman District Officer, Ismawie Salleh.
