KUCHING: The suggestion for the use of the single-dose CanSino Covid-19 vaccine in rural areas is a good strategy, said Society of Private Medical Practitioners Sarawak (SPMPS) president Dr Liew Shan Fap.
He said it is cost effective and efficient.
“I strongly support this strategy. Mobilising the vaccination team and transporting the vaccines to rural areas are costly and time consuming.
“We will save half of the cost and time if we are able to do it in a single trip.
“This will speed up the vaccination process and increase immunisation coverage of rural population,” he said when contacted yesterday (June 20).
Dr Liew, who is also the vice-chairperson of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Sarawak, noted that the usage of different types of vaccine will not have an impact towards achieving herd immunity.
“All the vaccines that we are currently using have been approved and are safe and effective.
“The main goal is to get more vaccines so more people are vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity,” he added.
