581 cases bring tally to 62,147

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 581 new positive Covid-19 cases on Thursday (June 24), bringing the state’s case tally to 62,147.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, revealed that 301 of the 581 new cases, or 51.81 percent, were detected in five districts, namely Sibu, Sri Aman, Kuching, Tatau and Bintulu.

SDMC said 85 cases were recorded in the Sibu district, Sri Aman (63), Kuching (58), Tatau (49), Bintulu (46), Miri (39), Saratok (26), Meradong (24), Mukah (20), Asajaya (20), Kanowit (19), Tebedu (17), Lundu (16), Kapit (16), Samarahan (13), Sarikei (11), Matu (10), Bau (eight), Telang Usan (seven), Song (seven), Kabong (five), Julau (four), Sebauh (three), Serian (three), Marudi (three), Bukit Mabong (three), Betong (two), Simunjan (one), Selangau (one) Subis (one) and Dalat (one).

Of the 581 new cases reported, 50 exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.

The committee also disclosed that 455 new cases had recovered and were discharged from hospitals and low risk quarantine centres (PKRC) throughout the state.

Of the number, 94 were discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital and its PKRC, PKRC Mukah (70), the Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (67), the Miri Hospital and its PKRC (59), the Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (36), the Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman (31), PKRC Betong (29), the Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (27), PKRC Serian (22) and the Kapit Hospital and its PRKC (20).

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases so far to 51,224 or 82.42 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

“There are still 10,387 active cases being isolated and treated in the hospital wards and PKRC,” the SDMC said.

The committee added 581 new persons under investigation (PUIs) had been reported.
