KUCHING: The spirit of ‘Kita Jaga Kita’ is strong among Sarawakians as food aid supplies are constantly given out to the less fortunate community.
Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian applauded the efforts done by the non-government organisations (NGOs), Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), the Chinese Federation as well as the political parties in aiding the needy.
“We understand that this pandemic has been tough on everyone. Hence, we are trying to help these people as much as possible to get through it because we know that it has never been easy,” he said during the distribution of food aid at Hui Sing area on Saturday.
He further noted that there was no food aid given among the communities in West Malaysia until the parliament made the announcement.
“This clearly shows that we have the spirit of ‘Kita Jaga Kita’ where everyone can help and look after each other.
“The help given does not focus solely on giving food aid but also helping others when they are mentally vulnerable,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Hui Sing JKKK chairman Kapitan Tan Kun Gee stated that the food aid given today was especially for the residents in Hui Sing, Seng Goon, and Hup Kee.
“Today we are distributing a total of 180 packs to the residents consisting of fresh vegetables sponsored by the Aeroville Vegetables Market along with rice and eggs,” he said.
“However, to those who are unable to get part of the 180 packs, we will be giving them vegetables instead as my team has packed 220 packs of fresh vegetables to be given out,” he said.
He also noted that aside from giving dry food aid supplies, his team also distributed packed food daily at the hawker centre.
“Since last month, we have given out around 300 to 400 food packs at the hawker centre on a daily basis. Anyone can go there and collect the packed foods and they will be given two packets each,” the Local Government and Housing Minister noted.
