KUCHING: Generally, people will not mind if the current movement control order (MCO) is extended, but at the same time they can’t help feeling apprehensive about it.
They also support calls by the authorities for the public to continue complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), and for more people to go for vaccination.
Sarawak’s MCO is set to expire on July 12, by which time the number of positive cases should have decrease to a near-acceptable number.
However, there is still concern as the economy is badly affected by the various restrictions.
Christine Wong, Admin executive
If MCO is extended, it should be zonal, especially zones with high cases instead of restricting the whole state or country. Lots of people are affected because of the lockdown, especially businesses. It’s unfair to keep everyone in lockdown when the number of cases is gradually dropping. Anyway, we need to continue following SOP guidelines.

The government should extend the MCO as there are still cases — just to make sure that everything is improving.
“Vaccination also needs to be sped up to give time for people to develop immunity. For me, sticking with the current health and safety guidelines has proven to be effective in reducing the infection rate.
Azizul Hakim Abdul Latif, Sales advisor
The Sarawak government should reconsider the extension of MCO as many are badly affected by it. Other than MCO, the authorities should closely monitor SOPs in hotspots, and also to get more people vaccinated.
Kenny Vesty Joseph Anggit, Unemployed
I think the MCO should be extended until everything is under control and until everyone is vaccinated. Lifting restrictions too soon may prolong the situation we are facing now. Nowadays, many cases involved factory workers, so the government needs to take action on this rather than implementing ineffective rules.
Alexius Williyam, IT and sales support executive
I think we should go to the next phase (of recovery). Other states under enhanced MCO have higher cases daily compared to Sarawak under MCO. The only way to improve the situation is through vaccination and SOP compliance from everyone.
