KUCHING: The basketball court at SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 was the venue of a one-day mobile vaccination centre today (July 10).
During a visit to the centre, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian explained that the aim of mobile vaccination centres was to reach out to people at faraway places and get them, especially those who had mobility issues and physical disabilities, vaccinated.
“As we all know, Sarawak is so big and if we ask anybody to come to one place, it will pose a lot of inconveniences.
“The beautiful thing that makes Sarawak’s vaccination so successful is that everyone including the firefighters, the volunteer doctors and nurses and other volunteers from the Lions Club, Red Crescent and so on are doing their part.
“The medical professionals are also chipping in. They work on weekends, take double shifts and so on. Another component to this success is the people. They are very enthusiastic,” he said Dr Sim.
Earlier on, the minister also visited a vaccination centre in Matang where around 2,000 people were scheduled to be vaccinated.
He also reminded public to turn up at the vaccination centres half an hour earlier before their appointments.
“We do not want people to come too early and get the place crowded,” he added.
Dr Sim hopes that with the continuous vaccine rollout, the Covid-19 cases would decrease.
“Luckily, because of the movement control order (MCO) and vaccination programme, you can see that our Covid-19 cases are starting to come down.
“This month, we continue with the vaccination programme to start saving the economy and livelihood of the people,” he said.
Also present during Dr Sim’s visit to the mobile vaccination centre at at SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Khirudin Drahman and Kuching Division health officer Dr Eunice Melissa Joseph.
Dr Sim thanked Khirudin for allowing the Bomba bus to be used for the mobile vaccination centre.
He also thanked the Kuching Health Office for organising the mobile vaccination at SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 and providing nurses and health officers for the vaccination programme.
