KUCHING: The Sarawak Anti-Pandemic Support Funds campaign has so far received support from more than 2,673 donors with a total donation of RM160,957.

The fundraiser launched by the Federation of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division Chinese Associations is still a long way from reaching its target of 5,000 donors.

The head of administrative and record section, Gao Wei Ning, revealed this during the second Zoom committee meeting recently.

The federation’s president Datuk Richard Wee thanked the committee members for their dedication in conducting the fundraising campaign.

He pointed out that the campaign led by the chairman of Sarawak Anti-Pandemic Support Funds, Kuek Eng Mong, had received overwhelming support from its member associations, private entities as well as the public at large.

“I would like to remind the committees to continue with their hard work so that the target set can be achieved within the expected time frame.

“The members of the federation and the suburban community leaders have been heavily engaging in this campaign. I believe that the target of 5,000 donors can be achieved.

“I hope the number of donors can be further increased to 6,000 or more to prove that the federation and the Chinese community are standing along with the state government in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kuek stated that the results gathered from the past three weeks showed the spirit of high commitment, cooperation and perseverance among the committee members in carrying out the campaign.

He was pleased that the campaign had been extended to numerous towns in the Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions.

“Other towns in the Serian division are also actively engaged in this campaign and I hope that positive responses will be received from these towns,” he said.

“The committee is also appealing to the public to support the campaign as we intend to fight to end this pandemic together,” he added.
