SIBU: The construction of Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) Sibu, which was delayed due to the movement control order (MCO), is expected to be completed before the end of September this year.

The construction of the home, worth RM15.8 million, started on January 2, 2019 and was expected to be completed by January 1 this year.

Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis together with Sarawak Social Welfare Department director Noriah Ahmad visited the construction site of the home to review its progress last Friday.

Harden and Noriah were briefed by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu Division, as the implementing agency, on the progress of the project.

During the visit, they were informed that the progress to completion is about 90 percent and also that the project was given approval for extension of time (EOT) three times.

They were also told by JKR Sibu that a fourth EOT application is waiting to be approved.

“We have been waiting to have a new building to accommodate the elderly.

The contractor for the project, Cerahjaya Rekabina Sdn Bhd, is optimistic that the project will be fully completed by the target date if the work at the site goes smoothly without restrictions.

“Hopefully, we can begin operations at the beginning of next year,” added Harden.
