KUCHING: Over 500 families living in the KMC flats received food packs to ease their burden amid the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) distributed the food packs sponsored by Padungan Constituency Office and Kuching Foochow Association at KMC flat, Lingga Block community hall today.
The food packs consist of rice, eggs, biscuits, instant noodles, cooking oil and other essential items.
MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and Padungan assemblymen Wong King Wei helped distribute the food packs to the residents.
“We are very happy to help the residents here, especially during these hard times and we also can see that a lot of people are trying to do good things for society.
“This shows that we are moving towards a caring and loving society, especially during hard times. We need to take care of each other especially the needy families,” said Wee.
He said that residents can come to pick up their food packs at the community hall using the coupons given to them.
He noted that residents with mobility problems or disabilities had their food packs sent to their homes.
“Those who have coupons can get their food packs here. If they have enough food at home and still holds the coupons, they can give it to others who really need it,” added Wee.
He said MBKS would continue to assist the people under the council’s jurisdiction during the pandemic.
“Whether they are living in a vintage house, semi-vintage house or terrace house or even in flats, they can contact us for assistance and we will come to assist them. If they need further assistance, they can call us.
“We do not know what will happen next in this pandemic. To us, whenever people need help, we will come and assist.
Meanwhile, Wong said he was happy that the food distribution went on smoothly with the assistance of MBKS.
“Thanks to MBKS staff, for helping us organise the food distribution. I urge all generous people to participate and contribute to the needy as we continue to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, especially with the new variants now in Sarawak,” he said.
