BAU: The Public Works Department (PWD) has constructed a temporary road diversion at the site of the collapsed section of Kuching-Bau road to ease travellers.

PWD acting director Ir Richard Tajan said the department has also installed barriers, signage and all required traffic management plan to warn the public of the collapse section of the road.

He said the road collapse was due to prolonged rainfall which led to heavy amount of water flowing in the area.

He added that a consultant would be appointed to prepare a road design to be presented to PWD Sarawak top management by Monday (July 19).

“Meanwhile, Kuching Water Board (KWB) will begin works to repair the pipe leakage at the site as soon as possible.

Yeterday, Tajan led a technical team from PWD to assess the collapsed road. He was accompanied by PWD Quality manager Ir Sim Hui Kheng; Road and Civil Engineering Assets assistant director Ir Awang Mohd Fadillah Awang Redzuan; PWD Kuching Division engineer Mariam Dollah; and KWB general manager Rodziah Mohamad.
