KUCHING: Sarawak today (July 17) saw a slight drop in new Covid-19 cases. It recorded 388 cases compared to Friday’s 423 cases, bringing the state’s case tally to 71,039.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said no new death was reported today.
Of the new 388 cases reported, 194 were from the Kuching district, Serian (44), Sibu (28), Samarahan (21), Bau (17), Lundu (15), Sarikei (11), Miri (10), Beluru (8), Subis (7), Bintulu (5), Meradong (5), Tatau (5), Asajaya (4), Kapit (2), Mukah (2), Lubok Antu (2), Telang Usan (2), Betong (1), Simunjan (1), Song (1), Belaga (1), Lawas (1), and Selangau (1).
“Among the new cases, 271 are individuals who had contacts with positive Covid-19 cases, 57 are individuals in existing active clusters, 21 are from symptomatic individual screenings at health facilities, and 31 are from other screenings at health facilities,” said the committee in a statement.
In addition, eight of the new cases reported were persons who had returned from other states in Malaysia (Import B) – three from Selangor and one each from Perak, Johor, Kedah, Pahang and Sabah.
“On Saturday, 407 new cases were discharged from hospitals and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs),” said the SDMC.
Of these, 123 were discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the PKRC under it, the Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (77), the Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (67), the Miri Hospital and its PKRC (57), the Mukah PKRC (21), the Sri Aman Hospital and the Sri Aman PKRC (19), the Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (15), the Serian PKRC (11), the Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (9) and the Betong PKRC (8).
“This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases in Sarawak to 65,370 or 92.02 percent of the total number of cases,” said the committee.
It said there were still 5,061 active cases remaining in the state.
