KUCHING: Police here have set up a total of 14 roadblocks to restrict the public’s movement in two enhanced movement control order (EMCO) areas at Tabuan Melayu and Kampung Astana Lot.
These roadblocks were set up following discussions with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and its relevant agencies.
District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said seven roadblocks were each set up in Tabuan Melayu and Kampung Astana Lot, and both are controlled on a 24-hour basis.
“We have two categories of compliance namely one with the community inside the EMCO areas and the second one is on the perimeters of the (EMCO) area which are guarded.
“So far, the residents in these areas have been cooperating with us and we will continue to monitor their compliance in the next few days,” he told the media today (July 17) at Kuching police headquarters (IPD).
Touching on Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) in Kuching, he stated that the police will continue to enforce the eight roadblocks set up around the district’s border.
Ahsmon disclosed that their strategy will now be focused on the standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance teams following the green light for various non-essential services to operate and the public’s movement in the district.
“We will strengthen and provide detail assignments for our compliance team to ensure that the community continue to comply with the SOPs set for the common good,” he told.
Apart from that, the community are urged not to put the blame on the authorities if they are issued a compound as the action is done according to the law and for the good of the community to curb the spread of Covid-19.
