KUCHING: Sarawak on Sunday (July 18) recorded a decrease of new Covid-19 cases — 261 cases as compared to 388 the previous day and one death.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cumulative number of cases statewide now stood at 71,300 since the first case was recorded in March, last year.
It said Kuching took the lead in the number of new cases with 130, followed by Sibu with 31 and Sarikei with 21.
“Samarahan registered 18 cases; Meradong 12 cases; Bintulu eight cases; Saratok and Asajaya six cases each; Miri and Kapit five cases each; Pakan four cases; Bau and Subis two cases each; Serian and Tatau one case each,” it added.
The SDMC said 169 of the total cases consisted of individuals who were close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases.
“There are also 21 cases involving individuals in existing clusters, 23 cases from screening of symptomatic health workers and 48 cases from other screenings in health facilities,” it explained.
The SDMC added that currently, there were 4,826 active cases in Sarawak after 495 more patients had completed their treatments and were discharged from hospitals statewide.
The committee said a 58-year-old man from Kapit also succumbed to the virus, bringing the state’s death toll to 444.
“The victim received treatment at Kapit Hospital after testing positive on June 17. He also had a history of high blood pressure and dyslipidaemia,” it added.
