KUCHING: Two thousand and five hundred households in the Tabuan Melayu area have received ten tonnes of food aid donated by Santubong MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Wan Junaidi, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, stated that these households of 10,000 people came from six villages in the area which were placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from July 16 to 29.
The villages are Tabuan Lot, Tabuan Tengah, Tabuan Hilir, Tabuan Dani, Tabuan Cemerlang and Tabuan Lama. Each household received a food pack of essential items such as canned food, fresh meat as well as fresh chickens.
“It is unfortunate that these villagers had to be placed under EMCO during the Aidiladha month. However, they have to understand that this move is important to contain the spread of the deadly Covid-19 virus in the area.
“I hope the food aid that we have distributed will be able to lighten some of the burden faced by the villagers in this trying time,” he added.
Meanwhile, he is optimistic that the people in his constituency will be fully vaccinated by the end of this month.
Based on reports received, he said most of the villages in his constituency had been fully vaccinated and the ongoing immunisation programme was being carried out smoothly.
There are six vaccination centres made available for Santubong folk, namely, Santubong Health Clinic, Buntal Health Clinic, Telaga Air Health Clinic, Bako Health Clinic, Sematan Health Clinic and Tanah Puteh Health Clinic.
“For this, I would also like to thank state representatives for working hard to ensure everything is in place, from the logistics arrangements to getting the people to participate in the immunisation programme.
“I am indeed happy with the progress. Nevertheless, the fight is still not over and I would like to remind everyone to continue following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) so that we can quickly flatten the Covid-19 infection curve,” he added.
