JULAU: An eight-year-old boy died after he was hit by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at KM16, Jalan KJD on Monday (July 26).
District police chief, DSP Andam Sulin said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene in the 8.10am incident.
“Investigations found that the accident happened when the victim, who was walking alone by the roadside, suddenly jumped from the barrier in the middle of the road and collided with a vehicle passing by the scene.
“The impact caused the boy to be thrown to the left side of the road,” he said.
Paramedics from Julau Health Clinic confirmed that the victim died at the scene.
Andam said the boy’sbody was taken to Sarikei Hospital Forensic Department for further action.
The 53-year-old MPV driver did not suffer any injuries in the incident. He was travelling from Julau to Sarikei.
Andam added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He advised the public to be careful on the road and said parents must always monitor their children’s movements so that they would not be alone on the road without their parents’ supervision.
