KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has called for the number of swabbing centres here to be increased to reduce crowding and congestion.

“This will reduce the waiting time and more importantly, reduce the risk of possible outbreak,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Aug 17).

He shared that he had, earlier on, visited the Covid-19 One Stop Centre (OSC) at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Dewan Masyarakat to better understand the situation in response to complaints of long queues and congestion there.

“Due to increasing cases in Kuching, naturally there will be more swabbing and testing. These will cause congestion and long waits at this centre.

“There are, of course, concerns that congestion will increase the risk of possible outbreak,” he said.

Dr Yii stressed the need for a change in policies to protect frontliners and members of the public.

“I still strongly believe in decentralisation to multiple testing centres rather than having one centralised centre,” he said.

The MP advised members of the public going for swab tests at the Covid-19 OSC at MBKS Dewan Masyarakat to take all necessary precautions, to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), and to be prepared for the long queue.

“I strongly believe that the frontliners are doing their best. They deserve our utmost appreciation and respect,” he said.
