KUCHING: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) through its Digital Village has partnered with Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) to organise the Global Market-Fit Programme (GMP), which will run virtually from Oct 4 to Dec 3.
The programme aims to support Sarawak startups to accelerate growth with new product/solution market-fit strategies expanding to the United States of America (USA).
It also prepares startups with the knowledge and relationships to expand in other markets and regions.
GMP has been designed, taking inspiration from the paths and key success factors of highly successful Malaysian startups which have expanded abroad.
The programme provides a platform for high growth innovative startups to explore cultures, understand ways of business and gain international market access in countries beyond Asean.
MaGIC and Tegas will be partnering with US Market Access Center (US MAC), a tech accelerator located in Silicon Valley, and Pixel Play Ventures (PPV), a Venture Capital Management Corporation registered with Securities Commission Malaysia.
“We’re happy to collaborate with MaGIC, US MAC, and PPV in providing a platform for Sarawak startups to expand to USA via the virtual GMP.
“This will be our second collaboration with MaGIC for the Tegas Digital Village, in line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018-2022,” said Tegas chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who also is Assistant Urban Development and Natural Resources Minister.
Startups will learn from inspiring mentors as well as meet and gain access to international investors and route-to-market partners. They are also required to commit to the online programme on a meeting schedule basis for the entire duration.
The programme will be divided into two phases, pre-immersion and immersion trip for Phase One and validation trip and post programme for Phase Two.
“MaGIC has always been supporting the Sarawak startup ecosystem especially through its strategic partnership with Tegas. This collaboration with Tegas for GMP USA will be focusing on startups meeting specific requirements to venture abroad.
“The pandemic impacted pre-existing plans by many startups to expand and scale-up. As they pivot to recover, GMP provides this unique platform for them to thrive,” said Amiruddin Abdul Shukor, acting chief executive officer of MaGIC.
Tegas and MaGIC offer 100 percent subsidy for Sarawak startups who are eligible for the GMP programme.
