MUKAH: The Sungai Tellian wooden bridge which is more than 70 years old will be closed to make way for the construction of a concrete bridge.
Construction work will commence soon under the supervision of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Mukah.
Kampung Tellian Ulu village chief Bonaventure Juana Lupieh expressed his gratitude to the villagers as well as other parties who helped realise this new development for the village.
The RM250,000 project was approved under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) for Tellian.
Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo recently handed over the project letter to Juana.
Meanwhile, the villagers are looking forward to using the concrete bridge for safer river crossing once it is constructed.
The old wooden bridge was built in the 1960s using belian timber and has been the main link between Kampung Tellian Ulu and other villages and areas across the river.
Contacted by New Sarawak Tribune recently, Balo said that the construction of the concrete bridge would provide the local community with better accessibility.
