SIBU: Individuals from Sarawak’s southern zone found entering Sibu without police permits or valid supporting documents will be slapped with a RM2,000 compound and ordered to turn back.

This was told by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division chief DSP Ariffin Bahar to the media when met at the Jalan Paradom roadblock here on Monday (Sept 6).

“Anyone from the southern zone must show three documents to the police, namely the negative Covid-19 PCR test document, police permit and vaccination certificate proving that they have completed both vaccine doses.

“This (southern) zone covers the districts of Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Serian and Tebedu.

“We are fully enforcing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee for Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan.”

DSP Ariffin noted that since the beginning of this month, the state had recorded four figure cases per day while Sibu Division had recorded three figure cases.

“Individuals who fail to show one of the three documents will be compounded and ordered to turn back after the issuance of the compound.

“For those who already have a negative Covid-19 PCR test and a vaccination certificate but an expired police permit, they can renew it at the nearest police station before entering Sibu.

“However, a negative PCR test document is not required for those entering Sibu from Sarikei and Meradong districts. They only need to show the police permit and the employer’s letter at roadblocks.”

He also reminded that all trips to Sibu are for essential services only.

During inspections earlier, two men from Kuching were each slapped with a RM2,000 compound for using a police permit issued three months ago.

“Their police permits were issued on May 29 while their PCR tests were done on Sept 5.

“This is wrong, they should go for their PCR test first and if the result is negative, then they apply for a police permit.”
