KUCHING: Professor Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman is of the opinion that political coalitions, whether government or opposition, should use one official logo for polls.
The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) academician said using one logo was a reflection of unity and would avoid causing confusion among voters.
Commenting on Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s remarks that Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties in Sabah and Sarawak did not need to use the official coalition logo in the next general election, he said Lim might not be confident with the PH logo.
“It looks like he is not confident PH in Sabah and Sarawak can win the hearts of the voters if they use that one (PH) logo.
“Or perhaps, he wants the respective party to use their own logo to enable the voters to really know which party they are giving support to,” he said on Monday (Sept 6).
He said in previous scenarios when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the PH chairman, he had decided to use Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) logo in order to unite all the parties under PH because he believed that it was easier for the voters to make the right decision.
“So, this time, for PH, if they really want to succeed in the election, they should stick to one official logo as it will be much easier.”
Prof Fadzil said the pro of using the respective party logo during election would be, it was good for voters in an area but the con was that, it did not look good as far as uniformity was concerned.
To him, using the respective party logo was very party-based or component-based, and not really as one party as a whole.
On the slight disagreement between Lim and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with regard to the use of the official coalition logo in polls, he said it looked like the duo were not communicating well.
“I believe it is not wise for them to argue openly because it looks like they are not sharing the same views. It looks like they don’t really talk to each other about this.
“Plus, it does not look good on PH to not have a common understanding on issues like this.”
