MIRI: The first Covid-19 dose for teenagers aged from 16 to 17 years old started on Friday at all public vaccination centres (PPVs) in the division.
Parents or guardians accompanying their children to receive the vaccines were earlier told to bring along identity documents or other related documents as well as their children’s medical cards, if any.
For teenagers in the rural areas, the vaccination programme will be conducted at health clinics that have been determined by Miri Division Health Office.
“The Covid-19 vaccines are given to all teenagers aged 12 to 17 with comorbid diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, disabled (OKU) and so on including obesity.
“The vaccination drive will be conducted at Miri Hospital according to a pre-arranged appointment,” said Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) in a statement today (Sept 10).
Teenagers aged 16 to 17 who are not school students can also get inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine through a walk-in appointment at any PPVs, except in the rural areas.
Teenagers who are from other divisions that are now in Miri are also allowed to be vaxxed through walk-in appointment at nearby PPVs.
“Community leaders, kapitans, tuai rumah and village chiefs are urged to identify teenagers in their respective areas aged 16 to 17 who are not studying in any school.
“They need to assist these teenagers and fill in information in forms prepared by their respective district offices to help coordinate the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP),” it said.
Transport Minister and also minister in-charge of Miri DDMC Datuk Lee Kim Shin spent some time visiting and observing the PPV at Dewan Eastwood and Dewan Curtain University today.
Lee was accompanied by Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohamah Yusuf, Miri Division Health officer Dr P Raviwharmman Packierisamy, Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu as well as officials from other departments and agencies.
