KUCHING: Class E and F contractors are advised to be committed to carrying out their assigned projects and not rely on external labour alone.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said although the pandemic provided a huge challenge for contractors such as lack of manpower and building materials, this should not be used as an excuse.
“I said Class E and F contractors because the projects they handle are simple and sometimes do not require skilled manpower from outside, such as building roads or courts.”
He added that there had been many locals trained in skills institutions in the state and could participate and become competent contractors.
He told the media this after officiating at the handover of a Rural Transformation Project (RTP)—a futsal court—at Kampung Pasir Panjang, on Wednesday (Sept 15).
Commenting on the RTP project, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Pantai Damai assemblyman, said the futsal court was built at RM200,000 and completed earlier than scheduled.
“Construction began last June and was expected to be completed this December, however, the contractor managed to complete it within three months…fences, floodlights, changing rooms, public toilets etc.
He hoped that with the many courts built, Sarawak would be able to produce futsal players of calibre not only to represent the area but also to represent the state and country.
Thirteen futsal courts have been built under the RTP since 2017.
