SIBU: Former Jemoreng assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie, 64, who passed away Friday morning was regarded by many as a leader who was easy to approach and always humble.
He was also renowned for performing the poco-poco dance and singing during events – his ‘habit’ that will live on in the hearts of many.
Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) Abdullah Saidol said the late Abu Seman would always be remembered for his selfless services, particularly in Jemoreng.
Abdullah referred to Abu Seman as his brother, who was always cheerful and friendly.
“He was like a brother, approachable, and a very humble person,” he said when commenting on the late political secretary to the chief minister.
Meanwhile, Dayang Normaliza Awang Tambi said her late husband had complained of being unwell over the past few days due to fever.
She said the late Abu Seman had refused to be admitted to hospital and requested to be allowed to rest at home.
“However, yesterday (Thursday), the deceased said he wanted to go to RMC (Rejang Medical Centre) after his fever did not subside and he was finally admitted for further treatment,” she told the media here on Friday (Sept 17).
Dayang Normaliza explained that while at RMC, her husband told her that he felt well with only a slight pain in his chest.
“However, the hospital called me at 5am this morning and told me that he has passed away due to heart complications,” she said in a sad tone.
Dayang Normaliza described her late husband as a cheerful person who was very kind, helpful, and easy to communicate with.
The couple have three daughters.
The late Abu Seman who was from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) first contested and won the Jemoreng state seat in 2006.
The two-term assemblyman did not defend the seat in the 11th State Election (PRN11) in 2016. He was later appointed a political secretary to the chief minister, a post he held until his death.
Abu Seman’s remains were buried at the Kemuyang Islamic cemetery Friday afternoon.
