KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah welcomes the government’s decision to start administering Covid-19 vaccine booster shots.

However, the Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family, and Child Development Minister said the shots should also include others in the population besides frontliners and the elderly.

“Research has shown that the span of immunity of certain vaccines is shorter than others. We have to do what is needed to ensure immunity against the coronavirus,” she said on Monday (Sept 20).

Fatimah noted that Sarawak did very well in the National Immunisation Covid-19 Programme, thus there should be no problem in administering the booster dose.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently announced that the government decided to administer booster shots to frontliners and the elderly.

He said a third dose could increase the level of immunity in individuals who are at a higher risk of getting infected as immunity could decrease after a certain period following the second dose.
