KUCHING: Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom has expressed hope that the booster dose would be implemented as soon as possible.

The Utilities Minister said this is because it is evident that vaccines can reduce the severity of the coronavirus infections, thus saving lives.

“The basis on whether the booster dose is required or mandatory depends on the medical experts such as the Sarawak Covid-19 Advisory Group’s (Scovag) views and recommendations. Then the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will implement policy accordingly.

“I personally agree that a booster dose should be mandatory in view of the data and facts given the surge in number of cases despite the completion of two doses,” he said.

At the same time, he noted he does not see any problems in rolling out the booster doses as the state has established a proven platform and mechanisms.

“These were successful during the vaccination roll out programme for the first and second doses,” he added.
