KUCHING: The state registered a slight increase in its daily Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Sept 21) with 3,724 new cases detected, compared to Monday’s (Sept 20) 3,619 cases.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cumulative total since the first cases was detected in March of last year now stood at 187,131.
It said 3,715 of the newly registered cases fell into Categories 1 and 2 while nine cases were Categories 3, 4 and 5.
“Of the total, 1,509 cases were detected in Kuching, Sibu (372), Bintulu (249), Samarahan (224), Miri (202) and Sri Aman (161).
“The rest of the cases were detected in Betong, Sarikei, Serian, Limbang, Bau, Asajaya, Lundu, Belaga, Kapit, Pusa, Meradong, Saratok, Mukah, Song, Pakan, Lubok Antu, Subis, Sebauh, Tatau, Daro, Selangau, Simunjan, Tebedu, Kabong, Lawas, Matu, Julau, Marudi, Dalat, Beluru, Bukit Mabong and Kanowit,” it said on Tuesday.
The committee said that a 15-year-old teenage boy from Miri who was on medical aid after experiencing brain damage in an accident last July, was among the 12 death cases related to Covid-19 recorded from September 10 to 20.
It said other death cases include that of a 66-year-old woman from Betong on September 10, a 90-year-old woman from Sarikei and a 60-year-old woman from Betong on September 14 as well as an 86-year-old man from Betong on September 17.
“Five death cases were recorded on September 19 including the teenage boy, two women aged 83 and 91 from Kuching, a 61-year-old man from Limbang and a 61-year-old woman from Kapit.
“Additionally, three deaths were registered on September 20, namely two men aged 91 and 80 from Kuching and Betong respectively and an 85-year-old woman from Sibu,” it added.
SDMC noted that the death toll is now at 709.
