TATAU: Datuk John Sikie Tayai visited longhouse project sites here to see the ongoing works and progress made on Monday (Sept 20).
The Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) noted that he was pleased with how the projects are well underway.
“As the local representation, I would like to see that projects are going well and smoothly. This is why I always monitor the projects within the areas,” he said on Tuesday (Sept 21).
Sikie visited the Rumah Panjang Baharu Sigan site piling project which costs RM100,000 – the new longhouse is being built as it was often affected by flood.
He also visited Rumah Panjang Baharu Rumah Lanting site piling project, which costs RM200,000. The previous longhouse was destroyed by fire.
“I also wanted to see progress of the fencing project at Rumah Panjang Nibong. I am very satisfied to see that all of the projects planned are being executed very well.”
At the same time, the Kakus assemblyman urged longhouse residents to be vigilant to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 virus.
“Our government has continuously reminded us not to hold gatherings. If there is a funeral ceremony, it should be carried out following the standard operating procedure (SOP).
“I would like to also remind the tuai rumah to play their roles in ensuring that SOP is being complied with at their respective longhouses. It is your responsibility to ensure the safety and health of the residents.”
Sikie also handed over ‘Bantuan Ehsan Kebakaran’ assistance to 10 bilik (units) of Rumah Micheal China worth RM700,000 and 11 bilik of Rumah Sengalang worth RM770,000.
The assistance is in the form of building materials as Rumah Micheal China was destroyed by fire back in 2015 while Rumah Sengalang in 2018, and both are in the building process.
