KUCHING: The Sarawak Foundation is offering education assistance to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) school-leavers from rural areas who are eligible to pursue their studies at public institutions of higher learning (IPT).
Its director Mersal Abang Rosli said eligible school-leavers can apply for the local Education Scholarship-Loan (Biasiswa Pinjaman Pelajaran Dalam Negara) with their parents as guarantors.
“This is provided that their parents’ pay slips have been verified by the respective community leader,” he said in a statement today (Sept 22).
At the same time, he said students will also be eligible to receive an incentive called ‘Hadiah Galakan ke IPT’ if their parents’ per capita income is RM1,500 and below per month.
“This is open for students who are in the first semester only,” he added.
The foundation said that it is currently focusing on providing scholarships for studies within the country.
