KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,766 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (Sept 23), a slight increase of 54 from the previous day’s tally of 1,712 cases.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the new cases, 1,751 or 99.15 percent were in Category 1 and 2 while 15 cases or 0.85 percent were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
There were 768 cases or 43.49 percent in Category 1 (no symptoms) and 983 cases or 55.66 percent in Category 2 (mild symptoms).
Six cases or 0.34 percent were in Category 3 (lung infections) while Category 4 (lung infection and requiring oxygen) had two cases or 0.11 percent and Category 5 (lung infection and requiring ventilator) had seven cases or 0.40 percent.
Kuching district reported the most cases at 399 followed by Sibu (247); Bintulu (217); Miri (191); Bau (112); Tatau (59); Kanowit (54); Mukah (43); Saratok (42); 41 each in Sarikei and Limbang; Sri Aman (39); Subis (36); Lundu (34); Serian (33); Kapit (29); Samarahan (26); Pakan (20); Meradong (15) and Tebedu (13).
There were nine cases reported in Betong; eight each in Lawas and Bukti Mabong; seven cases each in Belaga and Simunjan; Beluru (six); five each in Pusa and Asajaya; four each in Julau, Selangau and Sebauh; Lubok Antu (three); Kabong (two); one each in Song, Daro and Dalat.
At the same time, the committee announced the end of four clusters namely Kampung Bunuk Cluster and Tanjong Bako Cluster in Kuching, Jalan Buan Cluster in Tatau and Jalan Hospital Cluster in Sri Aman.
“This follows no new cases detected or reported in the past 28 days involving these cluster,” the committee said.
The committee also said that as of Thursday, there were 54 new persons under surveillance (PUS) recorded.
With this, the total number of PUS undergoing quarantine at the respective quarantine centres in the state is 2,041. A total of 153,420 PUS have been discharged statewide.
