BINTULU: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (Mafi) is committed to supporting the National Recovery Plan (NRP) through the implementation of its Prihatin programme.
In stating this, Sarawak Marine Fisheries director Bohari Leng explained that the programme was designed to help the target group affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as well as appreciate the sacrifices of frontline personnel who had worked hard to fight the pandemic.
He added all the departments and agencies under the ministry were involved in the implementation of the programme.
Also involved were entrepreneurs and mentors who were interested in contributing as strategic partners of the Malaysian Fisheries Department’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
For the Mafi Prihatin Programme in the Bintulu district, Bohari said the Sarawak Fishing Vessels Association (SFVA) Bintulu Branch had donated 100 cartons of drinking water, eight large boxes of instant noodles, 16 large boxes of biscuits, 30 five-kg packs of rice and some other basic food items worth about RM4,500.
“The recipients comprised 30 fishermen in the Bintulu district as well as frontline officers of the Royal Malaysia Police, the Bintulu Hospital and the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department,” he said after officiating at the symbolic handing over of the food baskets under the Mafi Prihatin programme at the Bintulu District Fisheries Office compound.
Bohari added that the programme was held using the drive-thru concept and in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the National Security Council (MKN) and the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
He said that as an appreciation to its strategic partners, the Fisheries Department through the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department would record the value of contributions received for the purpose of tax exemption applications from the Ministry of Finance Malaysia.
He added the Mafi Prihatin programme would also be held in other districts of Sarawak.
