KUCHING: A 31-year-old man, who was reported missing while looking for bamboo shoots near a factory area in Jalan Stephen Yong since Sunday, was found safe yesterday (Sept 27).

The man, identified as Billy Kaya, was found in a weak but stable condition by rescuers around 11.20am.

A spokesman from the State Fire Department operations centre said the location where Billy was found was approximately two kilometres from the search and rescue (SAR) post.

The operations was called off at 11.55am as soon as the man was brought to the emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit for treatment.

Earlier, Billy was reported missing by his friend since he left his home at 9am to look for bamboo shoots on Sunday.

Firemen from Batu Lintang station were then despatched to the scene and launched the SAR operation at 7.35am

The spokesman reported that they managed to contact the victim via phone, who said that he could not find a way out.

A K9 team from the fire department was also contacted to assist in locating the victim in the SAR operations.
