MUKAH: Based on further inspections carried out on longhouses and shops selling pork around Mukah and Dalat, the division is still certified free of the African Swine Fever (ASF), said Mukah Veterinary chief Hasnul Abdullah Buyong.
According to him, so far, they have not received any reports of sudden pig deaths from any animal breeders.
“The movement of pigs in and out is currently prohibited in our efforts to curb ASF,” he said.
Hasnul said apart from curbing wild boar hunting, the department will continue to monitor and raise awareness programmes on ASF among the communities in Matu, Daro and Tanjung Manis.
“Any sudden deaths of pigs should be reported immediately to us by contacting the Mukah Veterinary service office at 084-871050,” he said.
Limbang, Kapit and Miri Divisions were declared as African Swine Fever (ASF) Control Areas following the spread of the virus from Sabah and North Kalimantan in Indonesia last August.
Sabah also recorded an increase in ASF cases in several districts in the state.
