KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,361 new Covid-19 cases yesterday (Oct 5), a slight increase compared to the previous day’s 1,189 cases.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 1,340 cases (98.46 percent) comprised Category 1 and 2 while 21 cases (1.54 percent) were in Categories 3, 4 and 5.
It said Kuching accounted for the highest number of cases at 316, followed by Miri (254); Sibu (147); Bintulu (99); Samarahan (82); Limbang (45); Serian (44); Lawas (40); Kapit and Betong (30 each); Saratok (29); Sri Aman (25); Simunjan (23); Sarikei and Mukah (22 each).
Twenty-one new cases were reported in Asajaya; 20 in Tatau; 18 in Bau; 12 in Belaga;10 in Subis and eight cases each in Lundu, Kanowit and Beluru.
Marudi, Song and Lubok Antu recorded seven cases each while six cases each were reported in Pakan and Kabong; five in Selangau; three each in Tebedu and Bukit Mabong; two in Meradong and one case each in Julau and Pusa.
The committee stated that the cumulative total number of cases stood at 218,126 as of date.
The SDMC also declared 16 fatalities from Sept 24 to Oct 4.
The death recorded on Sept 24 involved a 77-year-old woman from Betong who was brought in dead (BID) to the Betong Hospital. The case had a history of high blood pressure and heart disease.
The committee said the death recorded on Sept 27 was of an 86-year-old woman from Betong who was also BID at the Betong Hospital. She had a history of high blood pressure and dyslipidaemia.
Meanwhile, the death registered on Sept 28 was of a 76-year-old man from Betong who passed away at the Betong Hospital. He had high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, chronic kidney disease and heart disease.
The SDMC said that two deaths reported on Sept 29 were of local men who had a history of high blood pressure. A 66-year-old man from Kuching passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) while a 72-year-old man was BID to the Betong Hospital.
Meanwhile, the death reported on Oct 1 was that of a 76-year-old man from Sibu with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
An 80-year-old woman from Sarikei who died on Oct 2 was brought in dead to the Sarikei Hospital. She had high blood pressure and heart disease.
On Oct 3, seven deaths were recorded. The first death was that of a 56-year-old woman from Samarahan. She passed away at the SGH and had high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidaemia.
The second death was that of a 65-year-old man from Betong who passed away at the Sarikei Hospital. He had high blood pressure.
The third death was that of a 36-year-old man from Samarahan who passed away at the SGH. He had asthma and obesity.
The SDMC said the fourth death was that of a 41-year-old man from Serian — with high blood pressure and dyslipidaemia — who passed away at the SGH.
It said that another death recorded on Oct 3 was that of a 61-year-old man from Sarikei who passed away at the Sarikei Hospital. He had high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
“The sixth death registered on Oct 3 was that of a 39-year-old woman from Miri who passed away at the Miri Hospital. She had a history of diabetes.
“The final death was of a 69-year-old man from Kuching who passed away at the SGH. He had high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia and heart disease,” said the committee.
The SDMC said two deaths were recorded on Oct 4. The first was that of a 63-year-old woman from Kuching who passed away at the SGH. She had high blood pressure.
The second death was that of a 47-year-old man from Miri who passed away at the Miri Hospital. He had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart disease.
