MIRI: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) remains committed to easing the burden of families from the B40 group that were badly affected by movement restrictions during the pandemic.
The association helps through the food assistance programme under the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).
Yesterday (Oct 5), NSJA’s president Andy Jong Wan Joon distributed 50 food baskets to needy families in Miri.
“We have distributed the food assistance to people with disabilities (OKU), senior citizens, single mothers, widows and those from poor families,” said Jong.
Pemulih was announced by former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in June this year, which stated that every MP and Senator is allocated RM300,000 to implement the food basket programme to help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The symbolic handing over of the food baskets was presented by Senator Alan Ling.
Jong also expressed his thanks to Ling for his contribution towards the food basket programme via Pemulih.
“NSJA understands the plight of the people struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic, and we are hoping via this programme and NSJA’s Prihatin Kasih Programme, we could alleviate their burden.
“As journalists, besides covering events and writing stories, we also give back to the community via Prihatin Kasih programme that we established to help those in need during Covid-19,” he said.
Since its establishment on August this year, under the Prihatin Kasih programme, NSJA has also distributed food baskets to its members.
